Inspired by Chrysalis, a cover shoot from the most recent INFRINGE issue, Josh Mascolo creates a new series of spray painted wigs for his art brand MASCOLO MASCOLO. Following his father’s foot steps, Josh became a hairdresser and educator, though his creative endeavours didn’t stop there: “Spray painting is something I got into simultaneously to hair. I wanted to figure out a way to combine the two.” To successfully apply this somewhat untraditional medium on hair, the wigs had to undergo a preparation process that included geometric cutting and gel lacquering. “I used gel, which would dry into the hair and create a hard surface. Once the gel dried you can spray paint onto it like a normal canvas. I layered the colours on top of each other until I was happy with it. And when you’re happy with it you leave it as it is. Just how I’ve been taught to give a haircut.”
