EDITORIAL: Saik Gonzalez and Monster House London create variations of the same classic punk hairstyle

The all-Spanish team formed by Saik Gonzalez, Monster House London, Adriana Roslin and Ataraxia Kimatica took inspiration from the punk movement that emerged in late 70s Spain. The punk movement pushed for more progressive ways of thinking about sexuality, gender, immigration, disability, and other aspects of society they felt were contaminated with the effects of Franco’s dictatorship. Gonzalez says they believe we are living in a neo punk era, where millennials and Gen Z are pushing again for new ways of thinking after the technological revolution. “Somehow we are still connected to the punks of the past and live through social misunderstanding in order to imagine a new way of life.” To visualise these ideas of old, new and change, the team took, one of the most recognisable punk hair silhouettes, the Soo Catwoman hairstyle, and restyled it over and over using hair extensions and jewellery.
