From 2 – 4 December 2016, thousands of Japanese comic fans gathered at the Makuhari Messe International Convention Complex in Tokyo for the city’s first ever Comic Con. Dedicated to celebrating comic book culture, the event included panel discussions, photo-ops, collectible merchandise and international celebrity appearances. Cosplayers came dressed as their favourite costumed superheroes and villains from Japan’s thriving Manga and Anime scene, as well as the worlds of Marvel and DC Comics. Recreating the looks of their favourite characters in immense detail, every element of costume is carefully considered. Hair plays a vital part in completing each distinctive look, with The Joker’s lurid green hair and Harley Quinn’s neon-dipped pigtails among two of the most popular at the event. INFRINGE captured the many fantastical looks on display.
