From 16 – 24 September, Salon 63 brings together artists and hair and beauty salons along the route of the number 63 bus, running from Clerkenwell to Peckham. Curator Sasha Galitzine has invited 13 artists to create a site-specific work in and around 10 different salons, that reflects upon these vibrant institutions and their crucial role at the heart of the local community.

“The partner salons represent the vibrant diversity of the bus route, serving the local Dominican Republican, Algerian, Nigerian, Columbian, Ecuadorian and British communities in matters not only relating to hair and beauty” says Galitzine. “Spending time in these spaces it is quite clear that the salon is so much more than a place of preening but rather a bastion of community support, friendship and fun. Salon 63 seeks to explore and celebrate these extraordinary places.”
