“The decisions people make with their hairstyles has always fascinated me. The semi-permanent act is a short-lived commitment to an identity, a character, a look. It can make or break someone’s self esteem.
The youth of Tokyo have taken this idea one step further by matching their outfits to their hair colour, or their hair to their dogs. Walking though the streets of Harajuku, almost everyone I came across had colour in their hair, including the occasional elder, which reminded me of the strong presence of manga culture. I was told some spend up to 2 hours a day coiffing their hair before going out in public!”
